An American State Department Report on Human Rights has strongly criticised The French Government. Although admitting that the French Presidential elections in 2002 were 'fairly' conducted, the Police came under attack for their handling of the riots that took place in some Parisian suburbs late last year. Corruption allegations during the French President's term of office as Mayor of Paris were also mentioned in the report.
